Doug Thomas

Police Chief

Chief Doug Thomas was appointed Chief of Police for the City of Trumann in late August 2025 by Mayor Jay Paul Woods and officially assumed the role on September 2, 2025.

With over three decades of dedicated service in law enforcement, Chief Thomas brings a wealth of experience to the Trumann Police Department. He retired as a sergeant after more than 30 years with the Arkansas State Police, where he gained extensive expertise in supervisory and operational roles. Prior to that, he served five years as a deputy with the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon his appointment, the City of Trumann highlighted Chief Thomas's "extensive experience in Law Enforcement and as a supervisor in Law Enforcement." He has expressed his commitment to building on the strong foundation established by previous chiefs, focusing on continuous improvement rather than major overhauls. Chief Thomas has noted that Trumann enjoys a reputation for having a solid police force and plans to enhance it through collaborative leadership and community-oriented policing. Under his guidance, the department continues to welcome new officers, promote internal growth, and engage actively in community matters to serve and protect the residents of Trumann.
